May is both National Bike Month and National Historic Preservation Month, highlighting two causes near and dear to my heart: The need for bicycling to be a viable form of transportation in our communities and the need to protect our historic sites from demolition.
So I am offering an opportunity for readers to engage in these causes, too. I want you to tell me why these topics are important to you. Sometime this month, ride your bike to a place in the neighborhood that is of particular historical importance to you or the community, and share the story about your experience in the comments section of this post. Tell me what the ride was like and why you chose the place you did. Tell me about the environment you encountered along the way, tell me about why you like a building’s architecture, tell me a personal story about that place that makes it special. At the end of the month, I will republish some of the stories in a separate post.
